Why You Must Have a Mobile Friendly Website

Do you have a mobile optimised website?

If you haven’t already got a mobile website now is the time to optimise your website for mobile. It has been recorded that mobile online shopping time now exceeds desktop online shopping time.

When did this shift from desktop to mobile happen?

Believe it or not, the shift from desktop to mobile happened back in June 2013 (4 years ago), where mobile captured 55% of consumers shopping time spent online. This figure is growing year on year and it’s now predicted that the mobile occupies over 60% of consumers shopping time.

In the U.K. 80% of internet users own a smartphone and they use these devices to conduct the majority of their online searches.

“Billions of times per day, consumers turn to Google for I want-to-know, I want-to-go, I want-to-do, and I want-to-buy moments. And at these times, consumers are increasingly picking up their smartphones for answers. In fact, more Google searches take place on mobile devices than on computers in 10 countries.” (Google, 2017)

As a result of more customers accessing websites via their mobiles, consumers are now expecting for your website to be mobile optimised. In fact, 61% were likely to leave if a site wasn’t mobile friendly (Google Survey, 2016). This is why it is so important to have a mobile-friendly website that has easy visibility and simple navigation so consumers can browse and shop with ease.

How do you go about creating a mobile-friendly site?

Unfortunately, it is not possible to “tweak” your existing website as traditional websites don’t display well on mobile phones. So, the best course of action is to opt for a fully responsive website.

What is a responsive website?

A responsive website recognises the device being used (mobile, desktop and tablet) and will resize itself accordingly for optimal viewing. Meaning you’ll be able to accommodate for all mobile, desktop and tablet users.
